SeaFun Kauai – Beach Snorkel Tour
Since 1990, SeaFun Kauai has been offering snorkel tours on Kauai. Your comfort, safety and enjoyment are ensured with our expert guides. Guests, especially beginners, will appreciate the thorough instruction and the close supervision in the water. Each guide has a six guest maximum. Learn about the unique wildlife and underwater beauty of Kauai. You will learn much more about the marine biology of the area from our guides than you could ever learn on your own.
Kauai, the Garden Island, is older than the other inhabited islands and has had additional time for reefs to form. Kauai’s best places to snorkel are inside these protective reefs. Generally, in winter, the south shore is the best destination for snorkeling, while the north shore is best in summer. Spring and fall usually allows for good snorkeling and calm waters on all shores. Snorkeling inside a reef is best done at low tide, when less water comes over the reef and the water has a chance to settle and become clear. The best snorkel spots on Kauai always include some current.
Each tour will begin with instruction from the tour leader. You will learn what you can expect to see while snorkeling, how to avoid damage to the environment, and how to snorkel. Snorkeling is very easy to learn and you should be swimming with the fish in no time. However, if you need any extra help, our trained guides will be there every step of the way.
There is always ample time for our expert guides to educate you about our unique, marine ecosystem. Hawaiian waters have a high percentage of endemic species. Many species found here are found nowhere else in the world.

Getting to know your guide and learn about the island on the way there and back is an important part of the tour.
Lawai Beach by the Beach House Restaurant is usually our first snorkel spot. The reef is approximately 50 feet from shore and the water is about 8 to 10 feet deep inside the reef. Most of the time on this first snorkel is spent hovering over the reef in just a few feet of water. A great variety of species can be found here: butterfly fishes, tangs and surgeon fishes, wrasses and puffers. We will be in the water as long as 45 minutes followed by a break. After the break, those wishing to experience a slightly more advanced snorkel will accompany us to the next area This area, in front of Prince Kuhio Park, is just a brief walk away. It is a little deeper than the first area, but the coral formations are more developed and we see the pacific green sea turtles.
After a shower and snacks we will head back.

The drive from Princeville to Haena is one of the most picturesque you will ever see.
Makua, or tunnels as it is known, is a gorgeous beach with Bali Hai as a backdrop. The volcanic inner reef has a large shallow area that leads out to a drop off. In some places, the depth changes from 3 feet to 60 feet, straight down. We follow the natural contours of the reef exploring as we go. Creating habitat for a variety of marine life, are lava tubes and underwater caves. We return to our entry point to exit, as there are only a few places where you can head for shore without getting into very shallow water. For our second snorkel, we will tour the area inside the outer reef
We will head back after showers and snacks.
