Nicknamed the “Garden Isle,” Kauai is the lushest of all the Hawaiian islands. And not only is it very green, but it is also home to beautiful white-sand beaches framed by swaying coconut palms – many consider it a picture-perfect tropical island. Kauai activities range from land-based tours and excursions to a wide variety of ocean activities.

A fun thing to do that’s unique to Kauai is a bicycle tour down Waimea Canyon. This tour takes you through both Koke’e State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park. Ride down the scenic Waimea Canyon Drive all the way to the blue Pacific. Along the way you’ll enjoy views of Kauai’s south shore and the “Forbidden Isle” of Niihau on the horizon.
Kauai is home to Hawaii’s largest and only navigable freshwater river. Wailua River tours are fun for the entire family. You can either join a guided kayaking tour up the river, or alternatively, go on a boat cruise. The destination is Fern Grotto, a fern-covered lava cave that you can explore. Because of its amazing acoustics, music is often times being played inside the cave, and it is also a popular wedding location.
Na Pali Coast
One of the top visitor attractions on Kauai is the Na Pali Coast, which stretches for 16 miles along Kauai’s north shore. Even if you’re on Kauai for only a few days, this is one of the must-see locations. Since this is a remote part of the island that’s inaccessible by car, the only way to see it is by taking a helicopter tour, a shoreline cruise or kayaking tour. If you’re in good physical condition you can also opt to hike here. The 11-mile long Kalalau Trail is great for hiking enthusiasts.
If you like fishing, Kauai is the only Hawaiian island where you can choose between saltwater and freshwater fishing. Come aboard a deep sea fishing charter and head to the island’s prime big game fishing grounds and fish for Blue Marlin, Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna), Ono (Wahoo) or Mahi Mahi (Dorado). Or do some freshwater fishing on the 523-acre Waita Reservoir.
Perfect for adventure seekers is tubing, a fun wilderness activity that’s unique to Kauai. Hop on a tube and drift down gently flowing canals and through several amazing tunnels and flumes into Kauai’s emerald interior. This is surely a great way to do some island sightseeing!
Other popular water activities on Kauai are snorkeling, snuba, scuba diving, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding. Some of the best dive spots are only accessible via boat, for example in the waters off the Na Pali Coast or surrounding the neighbor island of Niihau. Niihau is Hawaii’s “Forbidden Island,” a private island that few people ever get to see. Hawaii Discount offers charter boat tours that allow you to snorkel in the island’s pristine waters. Or how about a dolphin watching or dinner cruise around sunset time?

I just returned home after a 10-day trip to the Islands. I just wanted to comment on the morning boat trip we took on 12/22. Of all the things we did while visiting Oahu and Kauai, the boat ride was the most talked about. We had more fun and took more memories home then anything we did in the 10 days. Captain Rock and the crew was outstanding. If anybody asked me for advice on what to to do on Kauai I would highly recommend Captain Andy's. Thanks again. - Scott S. Troutdale, Oregon

Dear Hawaii Discount, we are back from Kauai and I just wanted to thank you for your efficient service and wonderful staff. We booked three activities through you: Smith Family Luau, ATV at Kipu Ranch and Zip Lining at Princeville Ranch. I made two reservations on the Web and one on the phone. Your website is great and easy to find any activity we wanted at a truly discounted price. Everything turned out perfectly and we loved it all. Thanks again! If we ever get the chance to return, we will certainly book our activities through you. - S. Elliott and family
