Diamond Head Lighthouse

When Captain James Cook sailed the Hawaiian Archipelago in the late 1700’s there were no aids to navigate his ship. Diamond Head Lighthouse is built 147 feet above sea level, and can be seen as far away as 18 miles from the  60,000 candlepower it releases. The light color is a red sector to warn sailors of how far away they are from Waikiki Beach. Diamond Head Lighthouse was occupied by the superintendent of the 19^th Lighthouse district, before the merger of the Coast Guard in 1939.
