To add more excitement to your next Oahu vacation, look for some Honolulu events to attend.
Like any other major metropolis, Honolulu offers plenty of events to keep you busy, from concerts to sports to theater. So what’s the best way to stay in the know and discover the best Honolulu events?
On the one hand, you could research magazines and websites before your trip. But they may only list headline events or big name shows. To really dig into the Honolulu scene, scope out the event centers’ calendars for yourself.
Here are Honolulu’s biggest and best event centers:
Hawaii Theater Center
The Hawaii Theater Center hosts a variety of shows throughout the year, from classical theater to concerts.
Features this year include holiday concerts, ukulele players, men’s choirs, pageants, and more.
Hawaii Opera Theater
If you are an opera fan, then you should certainly stop by the Hawaii Opera Theater.
This theater presents some of the world’s most famous operas. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Flying Dutchman, Sweeney Todd, and I Pagliacci are just a few of the big names to pass through this opera house.
KumuKahua Theater
The Kumu Kahua Theater is located in downtown Honolulu and regularly presents plays about Hawaiian life.
Plays here are written by local playwrights and offer “cutting-edge performances about the life, history and future of Hawai’i’s people.” For a glimpse into the local life and culture of the Hawaiians, this is the place to come.
Neal S. Blaisdell Center and Waikiki Shell
The Neal S. Blaisdell Center is an enormous entertainment center.
The center consists of an arena, an exhibition hall, a concert hall, meeting rooms, and a galleria. It hosts concerts, events, trade shows, community shows, meetings, sporting events, and more.
The Waikiki Shell, located in Kapiolani Park, is an outdoor amphitheater. Both venues are owned and operated by departments within the Honolulu city government.
To find out what events are coming up, visit the center’s calendar.
The Hawaii Convention Center
Close to Waikiki you can find the Hawaii Convention Center, an outdoor convention center that blends the natural beauty of Hawaii with cutting-edge technology.
The convention center hosts all manner of events and gatherings, from anime festivals to holiday parties to concerts. Visit their calendar for more details about upcoming events.
More Sources to Learn About Honolulu Events
Though these theaters and event centers are good sources to learn about regular concerts, plays, and events, Honolulu is a happening place. You can certainly find more going on at smaller theaters, community centers, bars, clubs, hotels, resorts, smaller auditoriums, and so on.
Here are a few additional resources to check out that may point you in the direction of other events and activities:
- com offers an extensive list of events across Hawaii. This is a good resource to explore when you’re planning your agenda.
- Honolulu Magazine has a calendar events that highlights some of the bigger events in the city. There are plenty of events in here that you may not otherwise discover on a traditional travel website.
- Eventful’s calendar has a good selection of concerts, comedy shows, and live entertainment. If you are more interested in pop music, club music, and concerts, this can give you some good options.
