If you’re taking a vacation to Kauai and you’re on a budget, then you’re probably looking for cheap places to stay. And you can’t get much cheaper than a hostel…
But are there any good hostels in Kauai?
It does have a few hostels and affordable lodging options, so if you’re a budget traveler, it pays to know what they are.
Here are the top 3:
Kauai Beach House Hostel
Kauai Beach House Hostel is, of course, right by the beach. Located in Kapaa, right off Kuhio Highway, it offers affordable rooms and spectacular views.
The 2nd-floor deck overlooks the beachfront and you can walk straight out the door of the hostel down to the eastern shore of the island. On the first floor, there is an outdoor seating area that offers plenty of seating and a sociable atmosphere.
Amenities include free Wi-Fi, free parking, and no curfew, not to mention bathrooms and a kitchen. The hostel is walking distance to restaurants, pubs, stores, as well as other necessities, such as a post office and a laundromat.
Private rooms cost around $75 per night and can accommodate 1 or 2 people. Dorm beds cost about $33 per night and extra guests who cram in with friends cost $20 per extra body.
Compared to the rates of most lodgings in Hawaii and Kauai, these prices can’t be beat.
Honu’ea International Hostel
Also located in Kapaa, Honu’ea International Hostel is walking distance from Kauai Beach House Hostel, the beach, and the rest of the town.
This family-owned and –operated hostel has lots of character, especially since the family who runs the hostel also lives there. As such, it is slightly quieter than Kauai Beach House Hostel. But if you don’t mind a more relaxed, family atmosphere, this unique hostel may be right up your alley.
Don’t get the impression that this hostel is underequipped, though. It is very clean and has a communal social area and a kitchen, as well as facilities standard for any hostel, such as bathrooms and Wi-Fi.
Their prices are basically the same as for their neighboring hostel.
Overall, Honu’ea International Hostel is another convenient Kauai hostel that offers great rates as well as unique charm of its own.
Camp Slogget
Camp Slogget calls itself many things: a hostel, a campground, and a set of cabins. While the term “hostel” is up for debate, this is definitely a lodging option that is both affordable and unique.
This YWCA-owned lodging is nestled in the forests of Koke’e State Park, which means you have to drive past the gorgeous Waimea Canyon to reach the grounds.
Not only will you be right in the heart of Kauai’s gorgeous wilderness, you’ll be only a short drive from Kauai’s western shore.
Lodging options include camping, which is the cheapest at $15 per night. The cabins are most appropriate for groups of travelers, and can accommodate anywhere from 4 to 15 people per night. Prices for the cabins start at around $120 per night for 4 beds, and $200 for 15 beds.
This option is ideal for those who wants a rustic retreat and have a large group of travelers in tow.
