The best gay beaches in Hawaii are open-minded, beautiful, and ideal for LGBT travelers.
Whether you want to be able to strip off on a nudist beach or find a breathtaking spot with great surf, the best gay beaches in Hawaii have it all.
Hawaii is made up of four main islands: Kauai, Oahu, Maui and The Big Island.
And to give you a taster of just how beautiful the beaches in Hawaii really are, we have rounded up the best gay beaches in Hawaii, island by island:
Kauai
Kauapea Beach
Kauapea Beach is also known as the “Secret Beach” because it’s a little out of the way.
Located on the north shore of the island, Kauapea Beach is worth the walk (it only takes around ten minutes) as it is so secluded and beautiful. The stunning sand and turquoise waters are the foreground for the breathtaking cliffs behind, and nude sunbathing is allowed at certain times.
Oahu
Diamond Head Lighthouse Beach
While beach isn’t officially “gay,” it is one of the most beautiful and secluded stretches of sand in Hawaii.
Located close to the Diamond Head Crater in Oahu, the beach’s most popular spot is underneath the lighthouse, where you can get even more privacy.
It is illegal to strip off here, but you will see plenty of people going nude – just make sure you put those clothes back on quickly if the authorities come past.
The beach isn’t as busy as the neighboring Waikiki and offers a piece of quiet.
Queen’s Surf Beach
Queen’s Surf Beach is the most popular gay beach in Hawaii.
Located between the Kapahula Groin and the Waikiki Aquarium, the beach is famed for its surf break and for its great social vibe. Despite being quite a large beach there is a lot of privacy, which is one of its appeals.
Nudity is not allowed on this beach, but socialising most definitely is. Close to Hula’s gay bar and other cool Waikiki spots, the beach is a great place to enjoy the day before walking to Waikiki at night.
Alternatively, if you want to stay on the beach into the early evening you can check out Sunset on the Beach, which usually features live music on the beach.
Maui
Little Beach
Maui’s Little Beach is very popular with gay men and nudest families because of its laidback attitude to nudity.
Known for its “hippy” approach to clothing, the beach is absolutely stunning and is on most people’s bucket lists for a visit to Maui.
The beach comes alive on Sunday afternoons when fires are lit and people dance and party in the evening on the beach.
The Big Island
Kehena Beach
Kehena Beach is another accepted nudest beach that is located on the Big Island.
Located in the Puna district of the island, the beach is long and has black sand. Apart from its nudity, the beach is also well-known for the numbers of spinner dolphins that make an appearance in its waters.
There are some fabulous shady areas, but it’s best to be cautious about when you swim here as strong rip currents and undertows can be dangerous during high tide.
