The 100th Anniversary King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade
The 100th Anniversary King Kamehameha Floral Day Parade is a Honolulu event in June that will take place on 11th, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
It is the longest parade route in the nation, stretching over 4 miles through the streets of Honolulu. It begins at the famous ‘Iolani Palace and ends at Kapi’olani park, and there will be 15 different review stands to view the parade from along the way.
The parade is deeply connected with Hawaiian culture and will feature elaborate pageant costumes, flowers, and floats. The parade is a celebration of the culture of the eight Hawaiian islands, and each island will get their own float. There will also be a float that carries King Kamehameha and his tattooed warriors.
Playing the part of the King is an honor among the Hawaiian community. The King and his warriors always look impressive and imposing with their tattoos, spears, and traditional garb.
The same goes for all of the other outfits. Ceremonial clothing is important in Hawaiian culture, and each costume tells a story, rich with symbolism relating to colors, materials, and images. The clothing is a point of pride, and all of the detail and effort that the pageant members put into their costumes is immediately apparent.
The art of Hawaiian pageantry on display is sure to be a feast for the eyes.
And of course, there’s the flowers – beautiful tropical flowers from all of the islands will adorn floats and costumes, suffusing the parade with brilliant colors and fresh scents. There will also be traditional music, featuring the popular and enticing sound of the ukulele, and tasty Hawaiian snacks, known as pu-pus.
When the parade comes to an end, there will be a party at Kapi’olani Park at 11:00 a.m. The party will feature even more of what made the parade great, including live music, and all sorts of Hawaiian culture ranging from arts and crafts to food and drink.
This parade will be an unforgettable celebration that welcomes participation from anyone.
