KapohoKine Adventures - Volcanoes National Park and Waterfalls Explorer (from Kona)
Departing from Kona, this tour first takes you to Bay View Farm, a 24 acre coffee farm located on the slopes of Mauna Loa volcano just above Kealakekua Bay. Here you'll see how the world-famous Kona coffee is being grown, and you’ll also learn about the various processes in making coffee. Sample 100% Kona coffee at a beautiful overlook with stunning views of Kealakekua Bay and the Captain Cook Monument, which stands on the only sliver of British land in the United States!
Your adventure continues south to the Big Island's Ka'u district an area known for its beautiful views, alternating between stark lava flows and Hawaiian dry forest. You'll meet a National Park Service trained guide at the 116,000 acre Kahuku Unit of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Head down a historic trail past lava tree molds, cinder cones and a hidden meadow with old growth native trees. You’ll walk across what looks like a surreal landscape of the 1868 lava flow and hike atop Pu'u o Lokuana conder cone, from where you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Ka'u.
Later, visit scenic Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. Lined by coconut palms, the beach is a popular hangout spot for Hawaiian green sea turtles who like to sun themselves in the sand. Then it's on to the Volcano Winery, where you can sample up to eight different types of wines, all with a unique Hawaiian touch. They also have estate grown teas to taste. Soft drinks and water are included as well. After sampling beverages, enjoy a hearty Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch with a complimentary glass of your choice of Volcano Winery wine or other beverage.
The tour continues to quaint Hilo town and Rainbow Falls, a beautiful 80-foot cascade surrounded by tropical flora. Then it's on to Akaka Falls State Park, where you'll get to see the largest easily accessible waterfall on the island, a stunning 442-foot cascade. Finally, visit Tex Drive-In, a popular spot for made-to-order malasadas, which are fried Portuguese sweet treets.
