Hawaii Forest & Trail - Mauna Kea Sunrise Experience
Start your day from atop the tallest volcano on earth, Mauna Kea! Join Hawaii Forest & Trail early in the morning to get up to Mauna Kea before the sun rises. There will be a brief stop at the Ellison Onizuza Visitors Information Station to acclimate to the altitude and enjoy hot beverages. The night stars are still visible at this point (weather permitting).
Then the group will head to the summit of Mauna Kea to greet the day's first rays of sunlight as the sun peaks up over the horizon. The morning sky usually lights up in brilliant shades of red, orange, purple and blue.
On the way back to the Visitors Information Station you'll have the opportunity to learn about the cultural and scientific importance of Mauna Kea.
