Kayak the famed Kohala Ditch on the Big Island. This is a truly unique Hawaiian adventure that takes you into the verdant mountains of Kohala. Hand-drilled and blasted out of solid rock around 110 years ago, the Kohala Ditch is a system of tunnels, concrete channels and elevated flumes that once supplied millions of gallons of freshwater to the Kohala sugarcane plantations. Hundreds of men were involved in its construction and many perished. Up until today, the Kohala Ditch is a symbol of engineering skill and human determination.
Flumin’ Kohala offers you the chance to explore this marvelous irrigation system and the pristine Hawaiian landscape it crosses. On a leisurely 3-mile kayak float you will get to see waterfalls, streams and access lush private lands that are home to other natural and man-made wonders. This tour is as much fun as it is educational and is the perfect Hawaiian eco tour for families and groups of friends.
