Join the friendly crew of Manta Ray Night Dives of Hawaii for an adventure of a lifetime. Departing from Honokohau Harbor, located just north of Kailua-Kona, their boat will take you to a location just offshore on the Kona Coast where manta rays like to hang out at night.
A manta ray night dive has been featured on numerous Travel, National Geographic and Discovery Channel programs. It is often described as "surreal." Hawaii's Kona Coast is home to over 240 resident manta rays, and each one of them has been identified and named! This is possible as each manta ray has unique black and white markings on their underside. Mantas can grow up to 16 feet in length and weigh up to 1,600 pounds, but they have nothing that bites or stings, so they can be closely observed.
Here is how this adventure works: Groups of manta rays mingle nightly off of Makako Bay (Garden Eel Cove) to feed on the plankton that appears to soak up the glow given off by underwater dive lights. In a water depth of about 30-40 feet, both snorkelers and certified scuba divers can view the manta rays up close. This is a fun tour for the whole family. Ride alongs (observers) are welcome on board as well.
