Hawaii Oceanic offers a great Kona whale watch that departs from Honokohau Harbor, which is conveniently located just north of Kailua-Kona. Humpback whales travel from Alaska to Hawaii every winter to mate and nurse their young. Watching these gentle giants taking care of their newborn calves is nothing short of amazing. Hawaii Oceanic offers small group whale watch cruises, so you will have plenty of room on board and enjoy an uncrowded atmosphere.

Where and When:: Tour time: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Check in at 12:30 pm at the Hawaii Oceanic office, located at Honokohau Harbor, 74-381 Kealakehe Parkway, Suite B, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 View Map

Driving Directions:

From Kailua-Kona heading north:
Head north on Queen Ka'ahumanu Hwy 2.3 miles. Turn left on Kealakehe Pkwy. Follow road until you arrive at F dock (fuel dock) building on the right where the parking lot, gas station and boat dock are located. Park in parking lot and go to Hawaii Oceanic’s office for check in.

From the Kohala Coast resorts (Waikoloa area) heading south:
Drive south towards Kailua-Kona. We are approximately 4.5 miles south of the airport. Turn right on Kealakehe Pkwy. Follow road until you arrive at F dock (fuel dock) building where gas station and boat dock are located. Park in parking lot and go to Hawaii Oceanic’s office for check in.

The office is located on the ocean side, top floor of building. There are two routes to the office by walking around either side of the building from the parking lot. One route is to go to left side of building, down stairs to dock, take right along fuel dock, then an immediate right up the stair well, followed by hard left up another stair well to the top floor. Look for our signs along the way. Note: there is no access to our office from the stairwell by gas pumps/deli. Please follow instructions to go around the outside of building.
