Volcano House- Big Island Attractions
The Volcano House opened in 1846 as a grass shack. It overlooks Halemaumau Crater and has been open and operating since. On a visit to Hawaii, the legendary, Mark Twain stayed at the Volcano House. There is a lava rock fireplace that has been continually burning since 1877.
