The 5 Most Beautiful Beaches for Kauai Snorkeling

If you want to see some awesome ocean life on your next Hawaii vacation, Kauai snorkeling may be the answer.

With a diverse selection of waters and marine life to see, Kauai has plenty of great opportunities to explore the waters. Whether you want to take a Kauai snorkeling tour or just grab your gear and go, you’re sure to see some of the most breathtaking underwater scenery the world has to offer.

Some of the best snorkeling tours take place on boats and catamarans. Na Pali tours are some of the most popular, giving you access to offshore snorkeling spots that you’d never be able to see otherwise.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t snorkel at Kauai’s beautiful beaches.

Here are 5 of the best beaches for Kauai snorkeling:

1. Poipu Beach

Located near Kauai’s southernmost tip, Poipu beach is famous for its calm and clear waters.

It was rated America’s Best Beach by the Travel Channel, and when conditions are right, there are excellent snorkeling opportunities. Its popularity means that it can be a bit crowded sometimes, but if you don’t mind crowds, you’ll see what all the hype is about.

This beach is also the starting point for several popular snorkeling tours, such as the SeaFun Kauai Beach Snorkel Tour. This 4-hour tour begins and ends at Poipu after taking you to several offshore snorkeling spots.

2. Ke’e Beach

Ke’e Beach is one of the most-visited beaches in Kauai, and it’s easy to see why.

The gorgeous ocean lagoon stretches as far as the eye can see, alongside a view of the entire Na Pali coast. The snorkeling is excellent as well. Once you swim a bit outside the inner reef, you’ll be greeted with tuna, turtles, and schools of colorful fish.

3. Lydgate Park

Lydgate park is a man-made lagoon within an enclosure of boulders, making it ideal for beginners and families with young children.

But don’t let its low difficulty level fool you, there are still plenty of great fish to see, including colorful parrotfish and sea turtles.

4. Lawai Beach

Easily accessible by road and quite popular, Lawai Beach is a nice calm spot to snorkel.

Guarded by a protective reef, the turquoise waters stay relatively calm, and there is some beautiful coral if you go further out. There are also loads of exotic fish and turtles to see.

5. Tunnels Beach

Tunnels, also known as Makua, beach, is certainly one of the most picturesque on the island.

The half-moon shaped reef at the center is perfect for snorkeling, and much calmer than the usual North Shore beaches. Tunnels is famed for its diving opportunities, but as a snorkeler, it is still perfect to check out some incredible coral caverns, tunnels, and marine life.

Be sure to check it out on your next Kauai Vacation!
