Located in Volcano at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Volcano Golf and Country Club is a Big Island golf course that’s not to be missed. Set on the rim of the active Kilauea volcano, it is one of the world’s most unusual courses and truly special. Contrary to many other Hawaii golf courses, it lies in the island’s cool highlands, about 4,000 feet above sea level, so golfers can enjoy the crisp air. There’s no other golf course in Hawaii like this one.
The Volcano golf course features sweeping views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two of the tallest and most massive mountains in the world. Although it is a high-altitude golf course, the playing conditions are fairly flat with a few rolling hills. The course has a pond and three ditches, which come into play on four of its 18 holes. Look forward to the 15th hole, the most difficult one, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg fairway that is surrounded by tall pine trees. The course also offers a full restaurant and bar.
