This is an in-depth volcano experience on the Big Island of Hawaii. Your National Park certified tour guide will share a mix of natural and cultural history about the island's formation, illuminating the stories behind the ever-changing landscape of our island home.

Enjoy 2-3 miles of hiking around the park's dynamic terrain
Visit Rainbow Falls
Drive off-road to a private lava tube known for its bright yellow and gold microbial mats living on and accenting the cave walls (lava tube is only accessible to Hawaii Forest & Trail guests)
Stay after dark to see the eruption deep inside Halemaumau Crater, catch glimpses of lava and see the night's sky light up with Pele's orange and red glow

Please meet us across the street from Home Depot at our Kona Headquarters. This is a departure point for many Hawaii Forest & Trail tours. This location also has a 900 sq. ft. retail store that includes outdoor gear and apparel, books, maps and gift items.

The backside of this popular shopping area serves as a pick-up location for many Hawaii Forest & Trail tours. Look for Charlie's Thai Cuisine, and HF&T will be at the curb!
Requirements:: Please bring your own water bottle for use on tour. Water bottles are available for purchase at Hawaii Forest and Trail and a jug will be available for refills.
Restrictions:: Minimum age of 8 years old.
Guests should be able to hike on uneven or rocky terrain. We sometimes encounter cool, wet or muddy conditions. Other tour restrictions may apply.
Special Notes:: We'll hike for 2-3 miles at a location determined by park conditions that day.
