Known as Kauapea Beach, there is no question that this beach is a best-kept secret, which is why many like to call it “Secret Beach”. Located way off the beaten track on Kauai’s north shore, Secret Beach is nestled in at the base of a sheer cliff. To get to Secret Beach, you must hike down to it. A rocky trail will zig zag you down through trees, brush, and gullies. Get ready to take in a magnificent view of the beach itself and the gorgeous turquoise waters at the last sharp plunge of the path. During rainy days, the enormous 3000 foot long beach may be somewhat covered by a lagoon fed stream that winds down behind the beach. Towards the right of the beach, you will be able to take in views of the Kilauea lighthouse. Walking down to Secret Beach will take you approximately 7 minutes or so.

Swimming at Secret Beach can be quite risky. With unpredictable strong currents and rough surf, the waters are unsuitable for the novice swimmer. During the wintertime, the enormous beachfront can almost entirely disappear under the huge crashing waves. One can really enjoy the beach by hunting for shells, walking along the water, and just enjoying the wet sand in between the toes. Grab some food from the Farmer’s Market Deli in Kilauea and have a picnic alongside the beach itself. Your walk back up to reality will take approximately 10 minutes. Secret Beach is best known for its size, privacy, and scenery and is one of Kauai’s best secrets!
