🏖️ Secret Beach (Kauapea Beach), Kauai

Known locally as Kauapea Beach, “Secret Beach” truly lives up to its name. Tucked away on Kauai’s north shore, this stunning stretch of coastline is hidden at the base of a steep cliff and remains one of the island’s most secluded gems. Reaching the beach requires a short but steep 7-minute hike down a rocky trail that weaves through brush, trees, and switchbacks. As you descend the final slope, the breathtaking view of turquoise Pacific waters and the expansive 3,000-foot shoreline unfolds before you. On rainy days, a winding stream may create a shallow lagoon behind the sand. From the beach’s eastern end, you’ll also enjoy postcard-worthy views of the Kilauea Lighthouse.
While Secret Beach is a spectacular place to relax, explore tide pools, walk along the soft sand, or enjoy a peaceful picnic, swimming conditions can be extremely dangerous. Strong currents and powerful surf—especially in winter—make the water unsafe for inexperienced swimmers, and at times the waves can swallow much of the shoreline. Visitors often enjoy shell hunting, photography, or simply soaking up the scenery before making the roughly 10-minute hike back up the trail.
With its size, privacy, dramatic beauty, and quiet atmosphere, Secret Beach remains one of Kauai’s most captivating hidden treasures.
