Kauai Bellstone
The Kauai Bellstone is a rock formation that was built by the natives a long time ago to honor a historical or significant event. The rocks were placed precisely so that a certain sound would be made once it was struck. The unusual sound resonates for great distances. Native Hawaiian’s used Bellstones that were precisely placed to mark summer and winter solstices.
Bellstones can be found on all the main Hawaiian Islands. This particular Bellstone in Kauai is located just off of Highway 580 in the Wailau area. There is a dirt road just past mile marker #1 that you should take to see it. The two boulders of Bellstone are located about 100 feet past the guardrail.
