For those who are in the earliest stages of their travel planning, or even if you’re just looking to know more about Hawaii, there is a ton to know. Each island is its own unique place, though are connected by their volcanic past and the cultural traditions that exist across Hawaii. Oh, and they are all stunningly beautiful. What is there to know about all of the Hawaiian Islands? Let find out!
Oahu
Most people that have come to Hawaii have visited Oahu. The island is the home to some of the island chains most significant places including the Iolani Palace, the state capitol, Pearl Harbor, and natural destinations like the North Shore, Halona Blowhole, and more famous beaches than you can count. Oahu is home to approximately 75% of the state’s residents, with the highest concentration of residents living within Honolulu. The island is truly incredible, and a vacation here will likely have you staying along Waikiki Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world.
Maui
There is something about Maui that gets into you and you will not be able to get it out. Many visitors to Maui are annual visitors and you might encounter a lot of residents on the island that fell in love and never left. The beauty of Maui is downright incredible, and the island features beaches that you may not believe you are seeing. Perhaps most amazing, there are red, black, and white sand beaches on the island. The Road to Hana is a landmark that takes you all over the island on one of the most historic stretches of road in the world. Be warned when you visit: you will never want to leave.
Kauai
Kauai’s charm is unmatched and really, this island is just an amazing destination. The second wettest place on Earth is Mt. Wai’ale’al and arguably Hawaii’s most mesmerizing destination is the Na Pali Coast. The island is filled with natural features that you have to seen; places like Waimea Canyon, Spouting Horn, Mt. Wai’alea’ale, and of course the majestic Na Pali Coast, whose sea cliffs rise over 400 feet above the ocean below. It is truly a remarkable destination, and Kauai makes for a perfect vacation.
Big Island
The Big Island is probably the most authentic of the Hawaiian Islands. If for one reason, it would be Mt. Kilauea. The volcano is nearing 30 years of volcanic activity, a place that is a direct connection with the creation of the islands. Most visitors stay on the Kona side of the island, though Hilo is a popular destination too. The size of the island is more than double that of the other islands combined…twice. There is so much natural beauty on the island, and it is also the only island that routinely receives snow, at the summit of Mauna Kea.
