Packing for Hawaii - What to Bring for your Hawaii Activities - Hawaii Discount

As your trip to Hawaii approaches, the anticipation builds and the need to pack your bags get closer and closer. You won’t want to pack too early, because you may need some of the clothes you plan to bring, and if you pack too early, the excitement may be too much to handle!

When the time finally comes to get everything together, you may be questioning what to bring. There are the obvious things to bring like swimsuits and tank tops, and the things that you have to leave at home like a heavy coat and scarf. But what are the items that you actually NEED? That depends largely on the activities that you have planned, and the adventures that are in store.

Things to Bring:

Your bag must include a swimsuit or two, and possibly even a third if you plan to spend most of your time at the beach. Swimsuits are common articles of clothing in Hawaii and it is routine to throw on a tank top or shirt and your favorite pair of slippers (more on this later), and head out to the grocery store or to grab lunch. If you’re heading back to the beach your errands, why would you change?

One item you’ll need is your slippers. You might be asking “why would I bring my house shoes to Hawaii?” The answer is simple: we’re talking about what is known as sandals or flip-flops on the Mainland. Slippers are easy to get on and off, and are almost always worn. Be sure to bring a good pair, along with a pair of actual shoes (for hiking, walking around Waikiki Beach, or one of your daytime activities) and you’ll pretty much be set in the footwear department.

It may seem silly to bring anything other than t-shirts or Aloha shirts, but if you are taking our Hawaii Volcano Tour, or our Haleakala Sunset or Sunrise Tour, you’re going to need a jacket. At the summit of Haleakala, it gets downright cold, and the summit of Mauna Kea is the only place in Hawaii that see snowfall each year, so be sure to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. You’ll also want this on Kauai, as the wet and rainy parts of the island, coupled with the trade winds can make it a little chilly.

For your Hawaii Luau, an Aloha Shirt and pair of nice pants is perfectly acceptable attire. Shorts and a t-shirt are as well, but this is a time to celebrate and dress up a little. Hawaiian Style of course. Wear your slippers and enjoy an evening of entertainment!

As we mentioned earlier, you’ll want to bring a pair of walking shoes, especially if you’re going one of our popular Hawaii Hiking Tours. Most hikes trek through rainforests and with rain comes mud, so be sure to bring a pair that you may not be too concerned with losing. The same principle applies if you will be visiting the Volcano on the Big Island. You will definitely need to wear closed toe shoes so that you can enjoy the extinct lava flows and explore a little.

Perhaps most importantly, be sure to leave the sunscreen at home. If there is one thing you can purchase when you arrive, it is sunscreen. The options are plenty and you don’t want to bring something that you can buy on any corner.

Be sure to bring what you will wear and pack smart. Your trip is almost here and soon enough, you will be soaking up the scenery and sun on the beach!
