It happened on what would have otherwise been a calm Sunday morning. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy launched a surprise military attack against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. Several U.S. Navy battleships sank or were damaged; smoke from burning planes and hangars filled the sky. And death was everywhere. The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II.
Today, Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial are the most popular visitor attractions on Oahu.
