Big Island Beaches have diverse and breathtaking landscapes

Papakolea Beach

Only at Papakolea Beach, also known as the Green Sand Beach, is the only beach that has dark colored green sand. The sand is a mixture of a mineral called olivine that is found very close to a collapsed crater at the shore, along with black sand that has eroded from the dried lava rocks.

Polulu Valley Beach

Although not ideal for swimming, Pololu Valley Beach is still one worth visiting. With a beach full of black sand, black lava rock, and an emerald green beach ground covering, makes it for a unique beach experience to be had by all.

Punaluu Beach

Punaluu Beach is the largest and most famous of black sand beaches on the Big Island. With a vast crescent of black sand that stretches from lava rock formations on the south side, to a large thicket of tall swaying palm trees to the north.

Kikaua Beach

With a palm tree park, soft white sands, and a picturesque cove, there is only one word to describe Kikaua Beach, and that is beautiful. Located along the Kohala Coast, Kikaua Beach is a favorite among families.

Waialea Bay

Waialea Bay, also known as Beach 69 because of its once, unmarked path through the woods at telephone pole #69 helping people be able to locate the beach, is an area that is enjoyed by many.

Mauna Kea Beach

Mauna Kea Beach is considered by any to be one of the Big Island’s best beaches. With it being located just north of Hapuna Beach, it shares many of Hapuna Beach’s characteristics such as bright sunny days, sparkling waters, white sands, and being surrounded by lush green vegetation.

Makalawena Beach

Literally being “off the beaten path”, is what makes Makalawena Beach so special and unique. Though, its not easily accessible, the journey to get here is one very worth taking. You have two options to get to Makalawena Beach.

Maniniowali Beach

With its white sandy beaches and light blue waters, this is what makes Maniniowali Beach in Kona one of the prettiest beaches on the island.

Maniniowali Beach

Maniniowali Beach is a great beach for both swimming and snorkeling during calm conditions. Facilities here include restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and drinking fountains. Be sure to bring the sunblock, a hat, or even an umbrella because there are no trees or shade here at Maniniowali Beach.

Hapuna Beach

Most likely being the most famous beach on the Big Island, its no question that Hapuna Beach has been voted to be one of the prettiest beaches in the world.

The Big Island has 266 linear miles of coastline and contains over 100 beautiful and diverse ocean beaches. The majority of the Big Island Hawaii beaches are located in a concentrated region along the shores of the northwest coast. The Big Island is the youngest of the Hawaiian archipelago and its beaches are smaller than neighboring island beaches. The beaches on the Big Island have not had time to expand and develop compared to other islands.

However, do not dismiss the beauty and breathtaking views of each unique Big Island Hawaii beach. Hawaii Discount offers a Hawaiian vacation package that will schedule your island tour so you can enjoy the specific features that each Big Island beach has to offer. Big Island Hawaii beaches offer spectacular white sand beaches, green sand beaches created from olivine crystals, black sand beaches, and the mixture of black and white sand beaches, usually referred to as "salt and pepper" beaches. The Big Island is the only Hawaiian Island that

The Big Island has more than 80 beaches and new ones consistently keep appearing, such as the new black-sand beach, Kamoamoa, that developed in 1989. This Big Island Hawaii Beach was formed as hot molten lava hit the cold Big Island ocean water and shattered into millions of pieces. Of all of The Big Island Hawaii Beaches, Kamoamoa has the largest black-sand shoreline. Kua Bay
was the largest white sand beach with more than a half of a mile shoreline and was 25 yards in width until this Big Island beach was closed in 1992 due to new lava flows. Popular Big Island Hawaii beaches include Mauna Kea beach and Hapuna beach. The two beaches on the Big Island that are considered the most beautiful are Maniniowali and Makalawena beach. For the best snorkeling experience, the Kona coast offers consistent crystal clear water with locations that include Kealakekua Bay, Honaunau Bay, Maikaiwa Bay, Kapoho tide pools, and Kahaluu Beach Park.
