Once named America’s Best Beach, Kaanapali Beach in Maui is a popular getaway. Once a retreat for the royalty of Maui, it is now a popular destination complete with hotels and resorts. With three miles of white sand and crystal clear waters, Kaanapali Beach is to be enjoyed everyone.
After becoming Hawaii’s first planned resort, Kaanapali became the model for resorts all around the world. With five hotels and six condominium villages facing the beach, it makes it hot spot for tourists. Nothing beats shopping at the world-class shopping complex known as Whaler’s Village, with a variety of shops and restaurants to dine at, free Hawaiian entertainment, and a renowned whaling museum. Golfers and even non-golfers can enjoy playing the game at either the Royal Kaanapali and/or the Kaanapali Kai, both, which are championship golf courses. Keep an eye out because you may even see a breaching whale when taking a shot.
Enjoy one of Kaanapali Beach’s most famous attractions, the daily cliff diving ceremony. Every evening at sunset, a cliff diver will light up the torches all along the cliff known as Puu Kekaa (also known as Black Rock), which sits at the beach’s northernmost part. After lighting up the torches, a cliff diver will then dive off of Black Rock doing a reenactment of a feat by Maui’s revered King Kahekili. It is a scene not to be missed, and this just gives Kaanapali Beach another reason as to why it ranks so highly amongst America’s best beaches.
