Being one of Oahu’s finest beaches for swimming and snorkeling, Sunset Beach is a wonderful spot for beach goers during the summer months when the water is usually calm. Located on the North Shore of Oahu, it sits at the east end of a 2-mile long stretch of sandy shore, with Ehukai Beach and the Banzai Pipeline sitting to the west, both being popular surfing beaches.
During the winter months, Sunset Beach becomes a world famous surfing spot becoming the home to internationally renowned surfing contests. Sunset Beach is a surfer’s paradise when waves reach as high as 30+ feet (9m).
Be careful when one enters the ocean in one area of Sunset Beach, because a few minutes later you can find yourself a bit further down the beach due to a powerful rip current known as the Sunset Rip, running on every big swell. The ocean may appear calm, but near the shore waters you will notice the strong current.
All who visit the island of Oahu enjoys Sunset Beach. If you haven’t guessed already from its name, Sunset Beach has gorgeous sunset views, especially when one visits during the summer time.
