Discover the Wonderful and Diverse Island of Oahu
As the most visited of the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu has come to feature many of the most well known things to do in Hawaii. From Pearl Harbor to the North Shore beaches, to incredible dining and the most famous stretch of beach, perhaps in the world, Waikiki. The island combines the big city with the lush countryside and towering mountain ranges. Despite being the most populated of all the islands, Oahu has managed to keep its charm and character, and discovering the island will make for a great vacation
In total, more than 100 beaches line Oahu’s coastline and each is as incredible as the next. Waikiki Beach is where the highest concentration of hotels can be found, and many visitors to the island enjoy their days in the shadow of Diamond Head, taking in familiar sites and just enjoying their time on the white sandy beach. Waikiki may very well be the most visited beach anywhere, and it’s beauty and gentle waves are very attractive to travelers, especially those with young children.
Many visitors to the island can’t wait to get away from Waikiki, returning to the area only to sleep and regroup before setting out on the next adventure. A short drive from Waikiki is the stunning South Shore of the island, where the rocky cliffs and natural formations delight those looking for easy access to the diversity of the island. Sites like the Halona Blowhole, Makapu’u Beach and Lookout, Hanauma Bay, and Koko Head Crater are all found along this stretch of the island, and the drive is surprisingly short from Waikiki. It’s amazing how different the island is just a short distance away.
On the opposite side of the island is the North Shore, the place where the most charming features of the island are found. The famous big wave surf beaches are found along this stretch of the island, and visitors during the winter are always in awe of the powerful waves and the surfers who masterfully ride the waves. This part of the island is a far cry from the desert environment of the South Shore, and the lush mountains and greenery provide a beautiful backdrop to the bluest water many will ever see. To really get an idea of island life, spend a day in Haleiwa, shopping, dining, and hanging out at one of the nearby beaches. This is island life at its best.
With all of the amazing sites of Oahu, discovering the lush rainforests is what sets the island apart. Nestled deep in the towering trees are hidden waterfalls, hiking trails, tropical plants and animals, and surprises all around. This is a world that many do not get to experience and adventure awaits deep in the trees.
Oahu offers something for everyone, and it is easy to see why this is the one of the most popular island destinations in the world
