Set on an oceanfront lawn at Ko Olina, Kaula Luau is a story-driven luau that pairs a traditional Hawaiian feast with an immersive, theatrical show under the stars. Instead of a "variety show" format, Kaula is crafted as one continuous narrative – weaving Hawaiian, Tahitian, and Samoan music and dance into a single journey, elevated with modern lighting, projection and stagecraft. At the heart of the performance is a shared story between a kupuna (grandmother) and her granddaughter, traveling across oceans and generations to uncover their family genealogy and the cultural ties that connect Hawaii, Tahiti and Samoa.
Expect powerful drumming, mele (song), oli (chant), and hula – plus high-energy moments like acrobatics and the fire-knife dance. You are not just watching from the sidelines, either: Kaula includes interactive cultural activities and friendly competitions that make the evening feel personal and participatory.
"Kaula" means the binding cord – the invisible thread that links us to our ancestors, our stories, and the places we call home.
