Fort DeRussy
Fort DeRussy which is located in Waikiki, was an Army reservation built to protect Honolulu and Pearl Harbor when Hawaii was a United States territory. In the beginning 2 cannons were located within this Fort DeRussy. As time went by, the 2 canons were replaced with anti aircraft guns. Fort DeRussy was officially disbanded on June 28, 1950. The anti aircraft guns of Fort DeRussy were used for scrap and Fort DeRussy was designated as an Recreation Area which is now Fort DeRussy Park. Today this large, beautiful park which is located in Waikiki pays tribute to the United States Armed Services.
Next to Fort DeRussy Park is the Hale Koa Hotel which opened in 1976 and is available only to active and retired military service personnel. One of the battery locations from the original Fort has been turned into the US Army Museum and is inside the Fort DeRussy Park.
