Our Hawaii honeymoon was a dream come true — months of planning, excitement, and lists of must-do Hawaii tours and adventures. A Hawaiian luau was at the top of my list, while my soon-to-be husband Marc wanted to visit Pearl Harbor and, to my dismay, take a real submarine dive. I’m claustrophobic, so the idea of going underwater in a steel tube was not exactly my vision of paradise. But Marc’s fascination with the ocean won out — and I reluctantly agreed.
When the day finally came, after several days of sunshine and Oahu activities, I found myself surprisingly calm as we boarded the launch to the Atlantis Submarine. The ride out over the turquoise waters was relaxing, and as we descended into the depths, my fear started to fade. What unfolded before my eyes was breathtaking — a colorful underwater world filled with coral reefs, bright tropical fish, and even shipwrecks turned into artificial reefs. Then, suddenly, a sleek barracuda glided past our viewport, close enough to see every detail of its silvery scales and sharp teeth. I was in awe.
The experience turned out to be one of the most unforgettable adventures of our trip. It reminded me that sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone leads to the most extraordinary memories. I may never go skydiving like Marc hopes, but Hawaii taught me to never say never.
