KapohoKine Adventures - Evening Volcano Explorer (from Hilo)
After a drive through Hilo town and historic waterfront, you’ll head out to the old fishing village of Kalapana. Along the way your National Park Service certified guide will discuss the history of Kilauea volcano, volcanology, geology, and the various lava flows and flora/fauna that pass by. Kalapana and the adjacent beach, Kaimu, were destroyed by lava. Hike out across the cooled lava flow to the new black sand beach.
See the Sea Painted Church, which was moved twice in 1990 due to advancing lava flows.
Next head to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the crown jewel of Hawaii. You'll visit the Kilauea Visitor's Center, the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook and Steaming Bluffs. We'll stop in at the Volcano House for incredible views of Kilauea Caldera and hike out to the cracks and sinkholes left behind by the historic 2018 eruptions in the paved roads.
The tour continues to the famous Volcano Winery, the southernmost winery in the United States! Here you can sample eight different types of wines, all with a unique Hawaiian touch. They also have estate grown teas to taste. Soft drinks and water are included as well. After sampling beverages, enjoy a hearty Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch with a complimentary glass of your choice of Volcano Winery wine or other beverage.
