KapohoKine Adventures - Evening Volcano Explorer (from Kona)
The original volcano lover's tour! Departing from the Kona side of the island, you'll travel sough into Kona coffee country. The first stop is at Bay View Farm, a working coffee farm nestled on the slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano, just above Kealakekua Bay. Known for the best Kona coffee since 1984, at this farm you can learn about the various steps and processes in making coffee. Sample their delicious Kona coffee while standing at a gorgeous overlook with stunning views of Kealakekua Bay and the monument to Captain Cook standing on the only sliver of British land in the United States.
The tour then continues south as you head through the South Kona and Ka'u districts. Stunning views, alternating between stark lava flows and Hawaiian dry forest, are visible through the huge picture windows of your tour vehicle. We'll stop briefly at Punalu'u Bake Shop, the southernmost bakery in America. Offering the finest time-honored Hawaiian sweetbreads since 1991.
The next stop is at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach. Keep an eye out for green sea turtles feeding just offshore or sunbathing in the pitch black sand. The tour then continues on to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visit the Kilauea Visitor’s Center, the Volcano Art Center and the Kilauea Iki overlook. Walk along the crater to Nahuku (lava tube) and back, then on to Mauna Ulu. Take a quick break at Volcano House, welcoming guests such as Mark Twain and Jack London to Kilauea since 1864. Enjoy the views or check out their gift shop. If weather and conditions permit, this tour also includes lava glow viewing.
