Whenever anyone sets out for travel, advice and friendly tips are always offered. From how to pack appropriately for the destination to where to dine, visitors are always in search of practical tips to make their trip easy and more fun.

When traveling to Hawaii, visitors often have the same questions. From the best place to stay on each island, to what clothing items they should bring. Hawaii is unlike any destination in the country, and each and every question has an answer. We’ve put together a list of questions and answers to help you with your travel.

Q: Should I bring a jacket or a sweatshirt?
A: We get this one often, and rightfully so. Usually a trip to the beach will require a light jacket or a sweatshirt, especially at night. Temperatures drop and the ocean breeze can make it pretty chilly. Hawaii is the exception to this. The temperature doesn't drop too much and many visitors that bring a jacket end up not needing it. So, it really depends on you and if you tend to get cold very easily or not.

Q: How do I pick the best pineapple?
A: This is pretty easy. Hold the pineapple by the fruit, and find the center leaf on top. If the leaf comes out easily, the pineapple is ripe and ready to eat!

Q: If I am coming from the Mainland USA, do I need a passport?
A: If you are a US citizen, no. If you are coming from any foreign country, yes.

Q: Can I board the USS Arizona?
A: The USS Arizona was sunk during the surprise attacks on Pearl Harbor, and remains at the bottom of the harbor. The USS Arizona Memorial stands over the wreckage. You cannot board the USS Arizona.

Q: Can beginners learn to surf on Oahu’s famous North Shore?
A: Simply, we cannot advise this. The waves are far too large and the currents are too strong. Only experience swimmers and surfers should attempt to enter the water. And even if you are very experienced, we recommend not entering the water when the surf is up.

Q: What food must I try when I’m in Hawaii?
A: Hawaii is famous for fresh fish, and our go to is Poke. Start with the classic, and then get adventurous and try other types. You will love it!

Q: Should I rent a car?
A: If you don't have to, we recommend not. The roads are unfamiliar and traffic can be bad at times, especially on Oahu. To get around the island, try an island sightseeing tour.
