Located on the northern end of Polihale Beach is Polihale State Park.
This park is enjoyed by many and has nice facilities such as:
restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and drinking water. At 17 miles long,
Polihale Beach is Hawaii’s longest beach located on the westernmost
point of Kauai. From the northern end of the beach, some of the cliffs
of Na Pali can be seen. There are sand dunes all along the beach
reaching up to heights of 100 feet! Surf and currents can be fierce here
at Polihale Beach, due to the beach area being entirely unprotected
from the ocean; it makes it not very safe for swimming. Located on the
southern part of Polihale Beach is Queen’s Pond, a small, encircled reef
area where you can swim and enjoy the water.
Plihale State Park is a great area. Being the start of the Na Pali
coast, you will have great scenic views, especially of the sand dunes.
Be sure to bring water and keep in mind that there are no lifeguards on
duty here. The beach is only accessible by dirt road. You will find that
some locals will drive on the sand, but take much caution if attempting
to do so, because it is a long way back to civilization if one is to
get stuck.
