With the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa along with the Four Seasons Resort Wailea being your backdrop, Wailea Beach gives beach goers excellent snorkeling and good swimming. With its fine brown sandy beach and up to almost 30 feet of a seaward slope before even encountering depths just above the waist, makes Wailea Beach a great spot for young children and adults alike to snorkel and have a great time. Wailea Beach is an ideal place for those wishing to boogie-board, paddle around in the waters while wearing a mask, or for those beginner snorkelers. Don’t have the equipment to do so? No problem, there is a rental stand right on the Grand Wailea property for your convenience to rent the equipment you need.
The best snorkeling areas on Wailea Beach is to the left side as you are facing the ocean towards beautiful West Maui. When venturing out to do your snorkeling, be sure to stay along the coral reef that stretches out to your left. Once you pass through the cloudy waters due to the churning sand from the waves, you will see a variety of small fish and reef life.
Snorkeling early in the morning at Wailea Beach will most likely give you the best snorkeling experience. With the waters being more calm and clear in the mornings, the clear water will usually stay persistent until sometime after the noon hour. Usually around one in the afternoon is when the tides tend to pick up, so it is best to start your snorkeling adventures earlier in the day. Once 2pm hits, the waves will often become bigger and more forceful. The water will also become murkier and you will have to do your snorkeling further out into the ocean. Although Wailea Beach is not known for having strong undercurrents, always be on the lookout for changing conditions.
Like all beaches in Hawaii, Wailea Beach is open to the public. You will find that there is a parking area complete with restrooms and showers for your use. Being a popular spot, open parking spaces can and will be limited. You will see a sign along Alanui Drive that will point you to the public area where you can enjoy the day at Wailea Beach.
