The small town of La’ie sits on Oahu’s northeastern shore. La’ie’s cultural attractions include the Hawaii campus of Brigham Young University, the Mormon Temple, and the popular Polynesian Cultural Center that happens to be Hawaii’s number one paid visitor’s attraction. This open-aired museum and park features the cultures of the seven Polynesian island nations.
Another interest in La’ie is La’ie Point, also has been known as Laniloa Point. La’ie Point is a prominent lithified dune that juts out into the ocean. In order to reach Laie Point, you must go toward the ocean from Kamehameha Highway and onto Anemoku Street. Take a right and follow Napaka Street to the end. There are two other dunes, Kukuihoolua and Mokualai, that lie offshore as scenic islets. Also nearby are Hukilu Beach and La’ie Beach Park (also known as Pounders Beach).
La’ie is mainly a residential community with a small shopping square that includes a Foodland grocery store, along with a few restaurant chains such as Pizza Hut, Subway, and Taco Bell, among others. Although residential, its few attractions are big enough to attract locals and tourist alike.
